Leeds United talent Mateusz Bogusz admits he is looking for loan move next season

Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Bogusz has been discussing his plans for next season with the Poland youngster hoping to play regular first-team football either at Leeds or elsewhere.

At the start of the current campaign, it appeared that Bogusz might be in line for a more regular first-team role at Leeds. It came after he scored in a pre-season friendly against Western Sydney Wanderers. Bogusz then started the season in the first-team squad and played the EFL Cup fixture against Stoke City.

But he has been in the under-23s since with some fans wondering if Bogusz has perhaps taken a backwards step.

So what next for the teenager?

Speaking to Weszlo this week, the 18-year-old confirmed that he had a chance to leave Leeds United on loan this season, but the club would not allow it. He also made it clear that, hopefully, he would be allowed out next season. He also made it clear that he hopes that loan move will be in England.

“(My goal next season is to) start playing in the first team in England. I don’t know if it will be in Leeds, but I miss playing at full stands for stakes. I would like to regularly appear in a senior team, I don’t know whether in Championship or League One. Knowing life, when Leeds will advance to the Premier League, I’ll have to look for a loan. Now they didn’t let me go, which is a shame because I had a nice opportunity to go to another club with a chance to play. I want someone to finally hear about me not only during under-23 matches.

“But I know I can do it here (in England). I even had an offer from Poland when I was here in Leeds, but even the club itself did not want me to be loaned to our league. I didn’t want it either.”

Throughout the interview in his homeland, Bogusz was actually very complimentary about his time at Leeds so far. Whilst he expressed disappointment at not being allowed out on loan, he also made it clear that he understood how much he would be improving under the coaching methods of Marcelo Bielsa.

But should Leeds be in the Premier League next season it is hard to see how Bogusz would be featuring regularly in the first-team.

At that point, perhaps a loan move to the Championship or League One would be the best move for his development.
