This summer, as always, Leeds United were linked with a long list of players. One name that did the rounds during the final week of the transfer window for permanent signings was Moussa Konate.

As reported by L’Equipe, Leeds were interested in signing the Senegalese striker, who featured at the World Cup for his nation.  The Mirror (print edition, 08/08/2018, pg 51) went on to report that a £6 million move for the 25-year-old was on the cards.

Konate had a great season in France last term. He scored 13 goals for the French side. His versatility would have made him perfect for Leeds, however, a deal always seemed unlikely.

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa highlighted early his desire to play the season with a small squad. Bringing in Konate following the arrival of Patrick Bamford from Middlesbrough seemed an odd potential choice.

But, judging by the start to the season Konate has had, Leeds would have been right to make the move.

Konate scored twice yesterday as Amiens put Stade de Reims to the sword in a 4-1 triumph. He also scored earlier in the season. It takes his tally for the campaign to three goals in three games.

If he keeps up this form, then Leeds might want to keep track of the player. Perhaps a deal to sign him down the line could materialise.
