Leeds United were dumped out of the Carabao Cup last night after a 5-4 penalty shootout defeat to Stoke City at Elland Road.

The two teams drew 2-2 after 90 minutes with Leeds coming from two goals down to force the lottery of a shootout.

After nine successful spot-kicks, Jack Harrison saw his effort rebound off the post and ensure victory for Nathan Jones’ side.

Over 30,000 people were in attendance in West Yorkshire for the cup contest, however, representing a serious effort from the Leeds faithful.

One man who is a massively important part of Marcelo Bielsa’s team is Kalvin Phillips. He was deployed as a central defender last night in the absence of Liam Cooper.

The 23-year-old is Leeds born-and-bred and would clearly relish the chance of being part of the team that secured a return to the Premier League for Leeds.

Following last night’s game he took to Twitter to thank the club’s supporters, despite them overseeing a cruel loss:

Naturally, the Leeds supporters were delighted with Phillips’ showing even though the game was lost and took to Twitter in reply.

Phillips was the subject of some interest from Premier League clubs during the summer, although nothing materialised.

Naturally, Leeds fans want him to stay at the club and they took to Twitter to respond to his tweet.
