Leeds United starlet Joe Gelhardt makes Patrick Bamford claim
Joe Gelhardt has told Skrill that Patrick Bamford does not get the credit he deserves for his work-rate, as he suggested that he is always watching the Leeds United striker to see how he can improve his own game.
Bamford has enjoyed an outstanding season. The 27-year-old needs one goal to eclipse his tally from last year in the Championship.
The Englishman has scored 16 times having been tipped by many to really struggle in the Premier League.
He has certainly silenced his doubters with his efforts in front of goal. But Gelhardt suggested that there is another area of his game that is going somewhat unnoticed.
“He’s had an amazing season, scoring so many goals,” he told Skrill. “I think what people sometimes don’t realise is the work-rate that he’s got as well, how hard he works, how much he runs to get the ball back for the team so we can go on the attack.
“It’s a motivation for yourself to try and ask yourself: ‘could I do that? Could I try and implement some of my stuff that I haven’t got in my game that he has?'”
TBR View: Bamford set to be pushed to greater heights next season by Rodrigo – and maybe Gelhardt
Leeds supporters appear to be aware of just how important Bamford – who earns £35,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – is. It has often been a struggle for the Whites to threaten in the final third when the striker is not on the pitch.
The good news for Marcelo Bielsa’s men is that Rodrigo appears to be gearing up for a big second season at Elland Road.
He scored two outstanding goals at Burnley recently after Bamford had been brought off.
That may not only hint that Leeds are about to get more from the Spain international, but perhaps it may push Bamford to even greater heights next year.
And of course, Gelhardt will be looking to put himself in the mix after an amazing year with the under-23s.
