Leeds United star told he could play for Manchester City or Chelsea
Leeds United winger Raphinha is good enough to play for Manchester City or Chelsea, according to Paul Merson.
The 24-year-old joined the Whites in October 2020 for a reported £17million.
Raphinha has turned out to be a bargain for Leeds, regularly shining for Marcelo Bielsa’s outfit.
The former Rennes ace has made 38 appearances for the Whites, clocking up nine goals and nine assists.
This season, Raphinha has already scored three goals from seven Premier League appearances.
Even prior to Leeds’ first win of the season last week, the Brazilian played well and stood out while other teammates were struggling.
And this week, Raphinha enjoyed a superb debut for the Selecao.
He came off the bench to provide two assists en route to a 3-1 World Cup qualifying win over Venezuela.
Merson spoke about Bielsa in his latest Daily Star column.
While he was critical of the Leeds boss in some aspects, he admitted Bielsa “does make players better”.
“He’s got Patrick Bamford into the England squad when you couldn’t have seen that at one time,” wrote Merson.
“Kalvin Phillips is very good and has blossomed under Bielsa.
“And Raphinha could play for anybody you want to name and I’d include the likes of Man City and Chelsea in that.”
Brazil are next in action against Colombia on Sunday and Uruguay on Friday.
Meanwhile, Leeds are next in action on 16 October, heading to Southampton in the Premier League.
