Leeds United and Kalvin Phillips enjoyed an excellent weekend as the Whites disposed of Hull City with a 4-0 at the KCOM Stadium – a win made all the more sweeter as Tom Pearce’s Wigan Athletic beat league leaders West Brom.

A late brace from Tyler Roberts followed Luke Ayling’s deflected effort and Pablo Hernandez’s sixth goal of the season as Marcelo Bielsa’s side strolled to a comfortable win. Despite some injury concerns, Phillips saw out the 90 minutes.

It piled the pressure on West Brom who were tasked with what seemed a straightforward three points against Wigan at the Hawthorns. However, the Latics had not read the script, as Sam Morsy scored the only goal of the game.

Pearce, 21, was handed just his fifth Wigan appearance since joining the Latics in the summer from Leeds – after a troublesome start plagued by injury. He starred throughout the 90 minutes, and posted on Instagram after the match.

The win sees Leeds close the gap on Slaven Bilic’s side to just one point. With 10 Championship games to play, Leeds have clawed back some much-needed momentum, having won their last four games without conceding a single goal.

The five-point gap between Leeds and Fulham remains, but the Whites’ recent form has seen them claw in West Brom – many thanks to Pearce’s Wigan. Phillips responded to Pearce’s Instagram, as did former Leeds ace Paudie O’Connor.
