Leeds United star helps retake control of his boyhood club

Last season did not end well for Pablo Hernandez. His form dipped and, almost consequentially, so did Leeds United’s. The West Yorkshire side eventually fell short of promotion, leaving the veteran Spaniard in tears.

But at least his beloved hometown club CD Castellon survived relegation. A 90th-minute goal from Cesar Diaz saw Castellon defeat Barcelona ‘B’ and stave off relegation from the Spanish third-tier last month.

Hernandez’s love for his first club is well known. Indeed, he was part of a consortium which saved the club back in 2017.

He, along with fellow former player Angel Dealbert, stepped down from their roles at the club in April over ‘sporting disagreements’, as reported by El Mercantil Valenciano.

But now he is back. The Leeds United star along with Dealbert and president Vicente Montesinos are back in charge, as reported by La Vanguardia. The Castellon official website also reports the news whilst El Periodico Mediterraneo suggests the overall buy-out is worth around €2.3 million (£2m).

Hernandez has previously spoken to AS in Spain about his plans to play for Castellon before he retires. So it is clearly a club he loves and it certainly seems like a good omen when he is involved with the club. His form seemed to dip after he left.

Leeds United fans will undoubtedly wish Hernandez all the best with his other interests. As long as it doesn’t distract him from the task of pushing Leeds to promotion again next season.
