Leeds United star Barry Douglas’ international hopes look slim thanks to brilliant duo

Leeds United have enjoyed a storming start to the Championship season. One of the key reasons has been addressing the left-back role. Leeds snapped up Wolves defender Barry Douglas in the summer after he was told he would not be in Nuno’s plans in the Premier League.

Douglas has had an immediate impact. In six games he has two assists for Leeds and has been a key player at left-back.

Such excellent form should surely have the 29-year-old in the international picture for Scotland.

However, Douglas has unfortunately started to find his best form in the midst of Scotland’s best era of left-backs.

Andrew Robertson is the club’s captain and helped Liverpool to the Champions League final last season. Kieran Tierney is one of the best young left-backs in Europe and has excelled with Celtic.

Douglas, therefore, has not made it into the Scotland squad for the current international break. WIth versatile Graeme Shinnie also in the fold, Douglas will struggle to add to his one Scotland cap anytime soon.

Not that Leeds will mind, it might mean Douglas remains fresh throughout the season.
