Leeds United stalwart Luke Ayling is clearly not a fan of VAR

One Leeds United player has been making his views about VAR very clear after another rough weekend for the Premier League referees regarding their implementation of the tool.

After Roberto Firmino’s nearly disallowed goal came the controversy in the Everton game with Tottenham Hotspur.

Firstly, there were two penalty decisions that were not given which took an age to be decided on. Then, Tottenham forward Heung-min Son was sent off for a challenge on Andre Gomes after initially being booked. It was a horrible injury but the challenge did not fit the outcome and it appeared the red card was given only after the severity of the injury became clear.

Leeds United defender Luke Ayling is clearly not a fan. He was seemingly reacting to the potential Dele Alli handball and made it clear he feels that VAR belongs in the bin.

TBR’s View

Leeds United could have done with VAR a couple of times this season, Millwall away, for example, is a perfect example.

However, the system is not yet in place in the Championship and it perhaps makes for more enjoyable football.

The problem is not the technology but the way it is currently being implemented and the standard of officiating in England which has certainly gone down in recent years.

Ayling probably echoes the sentiments of plenty of current pros and if Leeds get promoted this season he will be hoping the issues surrounding VAR have been sorted out for their top-flight run.
