Leeds United round-up: James deal ‘structure’ behind failure, Bielsa eyed and Clarke training decision

A selection of the latest news and gossip from Leeds United.

James ‘structure’ not right

Swansea City CEO Chris Pearlman has commented on the failed deal involving Daniel James. Leeds United tried to sign the Welshman and it seemed like he was on his way to Elland Road on deadline day.

He travelled to Thorp Arch to complete the deal but it collapsed at the last minute. Pearlman wrote in the Swansea matchday programme, as relayed by Wales Online, that the ‘structure of the deal’ was not in Swansea’s best interest.

Bielsa targeted

Everton are reportedly eyeing Marcelo Bielsa as a potential replacement for Marco Silva, should they decide to sack the Portuguese tactician.

The current Toffees boss is under pressure after a poor run of form in 2019 from the Merseyside team.

The Mirror report that the Leeds United boss would be pursued as a potential replacement should Silva face the chopping block.

Clarke training absence

Jack Clarke is out of hospital and took to his personal Twitter account earlier today to thank the support he received. The winger had to be taken to hospital after falling ill on the bench after playing the first 45 minutes against Middlesbrough yesterday.

As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post he will not train this week and is not under consideration for the Swansea game. Further tests will attempt to find the reason behind his illness.
