Leeds United round-up: Berardi boost, award nominations and Coyle shines again

A selection of the latest news and gossip from Leeds United.

Berardi stepping it up

Gaetano Berardi is set to step up his recovery from injury during the international break. The Swiss defender has been out of action with a knee injury but is closing in on a return to action.

The Yorkshire Evening Post is reporting that Leeds hope to use him against Burnley in an under-23 match this Friday to assess his recovery.

The cult hero’s return would be welcomed by Leeds. Luke Ayling will miss their next game through suspension after picking up a late red card against Brentford at the weekend. Berardi is the most likely replacement.

Award nominees

For the second month in a row, Leeds United have had two players nominated for the PFA Player of the Month award in the Championship.

In August it was Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe who were up for the award, with Roofe winning.

This time around it is defenders Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper who have been nominated after their excellent recent form.

Coyle shines

Lewie Coyle continues to impress during his loan spell at Fleetwood Town. The right-back was given a nine out of ten for his performance against Doncaster Rovers this weekend by local paper the Blackpool Gazette. He was labeled ‘one of the standout players of the season so far’ in the ratings.

The Cod Army, managed by Joey Barton, picked up a 4-0 win and Leeds must be keeping an eye on Coyle’s form after a brilliant start to the season.
