Leeds United round-up: Saville interest, Vieira reasoning and Stoke team news

A selection of the latest news and gossip from Leeds United.

Saville row of suitors

Leeds United are chasing a deal for Millwall midfielder George Saville, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims that both Leeds and Aston Villa are ready to bid for the player this week, whilst Sheffield United are also keeping tabs on the player.

Saville, who only joined Millwall from Wolves last year, was instrumental in Millwall’s excellent campaign last term – which nearly saw them secure a shock play-off spot.

Vieira reasoning

Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has explained the departure of midfielder Ronaldo Vieira. The England under-21 international left in a shock deal this week, joining Sampdoria for a fee in the region of £7.7 million.

It left many Leeds fans disappointed. However, Radrizzani explained that Vieira had to go to ensure the club were sound financially after spending money on Patrick Bamford and Barry Douglas.

He also suggested tom BBC Sport that the money will go toward further investment before the transfer window shuts in four days time.

Team news

Leeds get their Championship campaign underway later today. They face the favourites for promotion Stoke City, who still have a Premier League looking team.

Leeds are likely to be without Pontus Jansson, who only recently returned to training after World Cup duties. Adam Forshaw is out for two months whilst Bailey Peacock-Farrell is expected to get the nod ahead of Jamal Blackman in goal for Marcelo Bielsa’s first competitive game in charge.
