Leeds United round-up: Clarke brace, Sky windfall and Wilks praised

Clarke at the double

Leeds United took on Cardiff City at under-23 level yesterday and came away with a 2-1 win from South Wales. The result means that, like the senior team, Leeds under-23s remain unbeaten and are currently top of their league table.

Lee Tomlin had put Cardiff 1-0 up on the day but a double from young forward Jack Clarke saw Leeds come away with all three points.

Leeds fans will hope the good form continues at both senior and under-23 level.

Sky windfall

Leeds United have certainly had a tempered relationship with Sky in the past. Massimo Cellino once did not allow the Sky cameras into Elland Road.

Once again plenty of Leeds games are being chosen for TV coverage this season. The usual draw of the club has only been heightened by the presence of Marcelo Bielsa this term.

As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, nine of Leeds’ first 17 games of the season will be broadcast on Sky. The fee Leeds receive for that is just £460,000 – which seems a small sum considering Sky’s financial clout.

Wilks impressing

Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann has praised Leeds United striker Mallik Wilks this week. The 19-year-old striker has scored three goals and provided one assist for the League One side this season.

McCann says Doncaster are in regular contact with Leeds about the player and that he has been ‘really impressed’ by his displays.
