Leeds United are reportedly battling numerous sides in the race to sign Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara, watching the Finland international at times this season – and Gary McAllister’s recent comments will excite supporters.

Kamara, 25, has been in stunning form for Rangers this season – under the guidance of Steven Gerrard. He was crucial to their Old Firm win over Celtic, before playing an integral part in a Europa League win over Standard Liege.

Renowned for his ability to keep the ball, Finland ace Kamara has thrown his name onto the radar of numerous clubs in Europe. Since the end of the window, TeamTalk say Leeds, Everton, Dortmund, Monaco and Lille have checked.

Football website 90Min claimed in the summer that Rangers rate Kamara at £10million, and that would be a bargain if Rangers assistant and Leeds legend McAllister’s recent comments are anything to go by.

“He is very tactically aware, good footballer,” McAllister told Rangers TV in January 2019, as per Inside Futbol. “I think he’s got loads of attributes. He can handle the ball really well. He can win games that are very tight.

“The teams we play at Ibrox, they tend to defend in numbers. I think he has got an eye for a pass and he is certainly a skillful enough player to actually make things happen.”

TBR’s view – Where does Kamara compare to other linked players?

Leeds have been linked with numerous midfielders to finally find a long-term partner for Mateusz Klich. Striker Rodrigo is currently occupying that role, though Todd Cantwell and Rodrigo De Paul were both strongly linked.

Kamara is unlike Cantwell and De Paul in that he will rarely get forward, though that might be down to Gerrard’s tactics in which he played a 4-3-3 in which the midfield three are somewhat defensive – an engine room.

Kamara keeps the ball superbly and can start attacks, but he would be better in Kalvin Phillips’ role, than attacking an opponents box.
