Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Gillingham defender Jack Tucker this summer but face plenty of Premier League competition – and Steve Evans once claimed the youngster would be sold “for millions”.
The Daily Mail have claimed Leeds have joined the likes of West Ham United, Southampton, Celtic and Rangers in pursuit of the 20-year-old ace – who has caught the eye with a string of impressive performances at centre-back for the Gills.
The report claims Gillingham may have to sell Tucker in order to pay wages over the coming months. The Scottish Sun claims Tucker is valued at around £1.5million, despite managing just 36 senior appearances so far in his short career.
Leeds are likely to be after a new central defender with Gaetano Berardi’s contract due to expire in the summer. With the Whites keen on Tucker, former Leeds boss Evans’ comments about Tucker’s future are now very prominent.
Speaking to Kent Online, Gillingham boss Evans claimed that kept Tucker when he was due to be released: “We found Jack Tucker who we were told was being released from the football club and we gave him a new chance – and he’ll go for millions.”

TBR’s view – Tucker would be an excellent signing for Leeds
Firstly, Leeds need a central defender. With Berardi due to leave and Ben White likely to cost the club more than £20million – that is, if he signs a permanent deal – then Leeds may be left with just Liam Cooper at centre-back.
But more importantly, Tucker is a top defender with enormous potential and it is of no surprise that Premier League sides and Scotland’s two biggest clubs are keen. Evans is right, he will go for millions, and Leeds must win the race.
