Leeds United record signing Rodrigo Moreno admits he is yet to speak to Marcelo Bielsa

Last week saw Leeds United smash their transfer record to bring in Spanish international Rodrigo Moreno from Valencia.

As reported by Leeds Live, Rodrigo has headed to Elland Road in a £27 million deal, which beats the previous record held by Rio Ferdinand.

It was an eye-catching move which has certainly caused a stir, with Leeds looking to establish themselves in the Premier League after their long-awaited return.

When the deal was on the cusp of completion, El Pais reported that Rodrigo was not initially open to the move. However, his meeting with the Leeds director of football Victor Orta and a phone call from Marcelo Bielsa helped convince him.

Well, it appears the final piece of information from that report is inaccurate.

Because according to the player himself, he is yet to speak with the Leeds United boss.

“I have not spoken with Bielsa, I have spoken with Víctor Orta during the negotiation,” Rodrigo told Cadena COPE. “It has been a very important incentive for Bielsa to be present. I am happy and excited and looking forward to starting work.”

Away on international duty with Spain, Rodrigo has spoken about the decision to head to Elland Road, in which he touched on working with the Argentine.

Of course, this should be too alarming for Leeds fans to hear.

Bielsa maintains a fairly distant personal relationship with his players and is happy to leave all transfer negotiations to Orta and co, once he has signed off on a player.

Rodrigo should, therefore, get used to not talking to Bielsa, who has opted to let his coaching do the talking during his excellent period in West Yorkshire.

Leeds fans will just be hoping Bielsa likes what he sees once Rodrigo hits the training fields at Thorp Arch.
