Leeds United have received backing from an unlikely source regarding their hopes of promotion to the Premier League this season.
Leeds are currently top of the Championship table and seven points clear of Fulham in third-spot. However, the season is currently on hold due to the global health crisis and the Whites are fearful that a void season could deny them their long-awaited potential promotion.
It is a similar position to their Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United. The Millers are second in League One, two points ahead of Oxford United in third.

Now, their manager Paul Warne has made it clear to the Yorkshire Post that both his side and Leeds should be given a ‘fair’ chance to earn promotion.
“Whatever happens, there will be a problem. I think the difficulty is that whoever you interview has a bias. Watford and West Ham have come out and said they don’t think they should re-start.
“But there has to be a part of your brain that thinks: ‘with the position, you are in, I can understand that.’
“In that way, we want to re-start and Leeds do. Of course, we do – we are both having good seasons and want to go up.
“But if they do call the season off – which is as likely as unlikely at the minute, let’s be fair – it is just about what is the fairest way, really.”
Of course, Leeds United fans will be desperate to get a chance at pushing for promotion. However, they will also be fully aware of how football is currently secondary to the global health problem that has the United Kingdom in lockdown.
Leeds United and Rotherham might instead have to wait and see if football does indeed resume, likely behind-closed-doors, or if promotion and relegation is taken on a points-per-game system, as it seems is the case in France.
