Yesterday saw Leeds United announce the permanent signing of Wolves loanee Helder Costa. As reported by BBC Sport, the total cost of the deal is a fee in the region of £16 million.
Leeds slashed out the deal for the Portuguese flyer last summer as they needed a new recruit in the wide positions. The delayed payment method offset concerns regarding FFP and, at the time, Leeds fans were fairly confident it was a good deal.
However, 12 months down the line, most Leeds fans would suggest £16 million is too pricey for the 26-year-old.
His performances have improved of late, but a return of just four goals and six assists from 43 games this season is not overwhelmingly successful.

But there is a positive note to take regarding Costa’s deal, and that is in the sum it will reportedly cost for Leeds to bring in the winger who plays on the opposite flank.
Jack Harrison, according to the Manchester Evening News, will set Leeds back around £8 million if they make his loan to Elland Road permanent.
After a difficult first season at the club, the Manchester City-owned talent has thrived in 2019-20 and at just £8 million could be a bargain.
All in all, Leeds will have to pay £24 million for two top wide options and that seems a fair price given the pair’s combined talents. At present, it just so happens that Harrison is in £16 million form, whilst Costa is playing like the lower value asset.
But there is hope. If Costa can follow in Harrison’s footsteps and improve immensely under Marcelo Bielsa for his sophomore year at Elland Road, then Leeds will have two £16 million wingers on their hands.
