Leeds United midfielder Vurnon Anita is said to want a move to the United States this summer, according to Leeds Live.
Leeds snapped up the former Dutch international on a free transfer in the summer of 2017 following his release by Newcastle United.
However, he struggled to maintain a regular starting spot at Elland Road under both Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom.
Last summer, Marcelo Bielsa made it clear Anita was not in his plans and the experienced utility player headed to Willem II on loan.
Now, among a long list of fringe players Leeds want to cut, Anita is on the chopping block again this summer.
Leeds Live are reporting a potential deal to join Greek side Panathinaikos has fallen through and the player’s agent has intimated the 30-year-old is keen on an MLS move. The report also states there is currently no active interest in the player.
Considering Anita was signed by Newcastle in the Premier League and as a Dutch international, he is likely to be earning good money at Leeds United.
So removing him from the wage bill is a must this summer as Leeds look to put the final pieces of the puzzle in place for what they hope will be another promotion challenge.
