Leeds United have made a move to sign Patrick Bamford from Middlesbrough. The fee involved is in the region of £7 million, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post. The move comes after Leeds had struggled to agree to deals with two other regular Championship scorers.
Firstly there was Abel Hernandez, but the free agent could not agree a wage cut to make the move to Elland Road. Then there was Derby County attacker Matej Vydra. The Czech international was said to be the subject of a £11 million bid from Leeds, according to The Telegraph.
That transfer has also fallen away because of wage demands, although some still hope Leeds can resurrect a deal. But the targeting of both Bamford and Vydra truly highlights that Leeds do mean business this season.
If fans are looking for a clear indicator of the ability the pair have at this level, just look at the EFL Award ceremony for 2013 and 2015.

In 2013 Vydra was awarded the Championship Player of the Year award for his season with Watford. Two years later, Bamford received the award for his campaign with Middlesbrough.
Vydra, who was on loan at Watford for his first spell from Udinese, scored 20 goals in 41 league games that season. Bamford scored 17 in 38 on loan from Chelsea in his successful campaign and both were more than just goalscorers for their respective sides.
Leeds United, if they could get both, would have one of the more frightening frontlines in Championship history.
It seems one will have to do, but the West Yorkshire side are finally giving fans something to cheer about in the transfer market.
