Leeds United now paying the price for Ben White transfer failure

Leeds United have just been handed a rude awakening to life in the Premier League, with two back-to-back 4-1 defeats against Leicester City and Crystal Palace.

The results have Leeds down in 15th in the table and it is not rocket science to figure out where Leeds’ biggest problem lies.

No team in the Premier League has conceded more goals than Leeds from their first eight games of the season.

Leeds have let 17 goals in this term including, on three occasions, four goals in a game.

So are Leeds finally paying the price for their inability to bring in their star defender from last season permanently?

Leeds had Ben White on loan from Brighton last term and he was the star defensive performer in the Championship.

Not only defensively, but in his build-up play, the Seagulls defender was a breakout star of the 2019-20 season.

Leeds tried desperately to sign him permanently at the season’s conclusion and, by all accounts, it appears that White was open to the idea of heading to Elland Road permanently.

As reported by Sky Sports, Leeds had a £25 million bid for White rejected and Brighton made it clear the player was not for sale.

Leeds ended up signing both Robin Koch and Diego Llorente to fill in the centre-back role alongside Liam Cooper. Koch has struggled for consistent form whilst Llorente has had injury trouble since his arrival.

Leeds had a tremendous defensive record last season with White in the back four and right now it seems they are still struggling with some teething problems to their new defensive system.
