Leeds United must now tie down Ezgjan Alioski to new deal after momentous international break

Largely, Leeds United have their contract situations at Elland Road tied up neatly. The only glaring outlier is the situation involving Ezgjan Alioski.

The North Macedonian international is the only member of the first-team squad at Leeds whose contract expires next summer.

It has been an exceptional international break for the wide-man. Alioski has helped North Macedonia qualify for their first-ever major tournament and will likely be a major player in the Red Lynxes squad at the European Championships next summer.

This is why Leeds must ensure he is tied down to a new contract soon.

Alioski is a versatile player worth keeping around for at least one more season, even if he is no longer a regular starter. Capable on the right or left of midfield, Alioski has also been playing in his original career position at left-back in recent times.

The 28-year-old is also a popular member of the team, with players and fans alike, so a renewal would prove a popular option.

If Leeds do not tie him down to a new deal, they risk watching him go to the Euros and impress many watching eyes who might find themselves pleasantly surprised to see he is a free agent.

If Alioski is to put himself in the shop window at the Euros then Leeds must prefer that he does so with a long-term contract under his belt at Elland Road so they can cash-in adequately if they wish to do so.

Either tie him down and keep him around the club or do so and make a sale if he slips out of contention.

Either way, Leeds need to give Alioski a new deal as soon as possible.
