Leeds United, it seems, were in the market for a talented forward in January. In fact, according to El Desmarque, the player Leeds wanted was former Real Madrid star, Jese Rodriguez.
The report states that Leeds fought until the end of the transfer window to sign the player on loan from French giants Paris Saint-Germain. However, the report says Leeds had concerns over a short spell at Elland Road and instead, Jese headed back to Spain with Real Betis.
Undoubtedly, Jese would have been an eye-catching get from Leeds. The 25-year-old was once considered a wonderkid in Spain after making his breakthrough at Real Madrid. So much so, that when PSG bought him in 2016, they paid a fee reported by Sky Sports to be in the region of £21 million.

Now British football fans may remember that Jese had an unproductive spell on loan at Stoke City. However, he is still a fantastic talent that would have surely strengthened Leeds United’s title and promotion challenge. He could have been the perfect replacement for Samuel Saiz and, with the deal for Daniel James capitulating, given Leeds serious options in the attacking field.
But even without Jese, Leeds still top the Championship. So surely they will not forget about him?
Jese’s deal at Betis, as reported by El Desmarque, contains no purchase option. That means he could still be available in the summer. If Leeds get promoted they could have Jese in for a whole Marcelo Bielsa pre-season, get him into the best shape possible and back to being £21 million worth of playing talent.
Hopefully, Leeds will keep him on their radar.
