Leeds United spent the summer looking for a direct replacement for former loanee Ben white.
The Brighton and Hove Albion loanee headed back to the Seagulls and despite Leeds’ best efforts, a permanent deal could not be found.
Leeds eventually snapped up both Robin Koch and Diego Llorente to strengthen their rearguard.
However, they also looked at the most direct of replacements possible, another young talented centre-back at Brighton.
As reported by The Telegraph back in July, Leeds were one of a number of teams keen on Roberts.
In the end, as with White, Brighton managed to keep hold of the youngster and even tied him down to a new three-year deal.
It certainly seems as though Leeds are missing out.
Roberts was loaned out to League One side Rochdale and the 18-year-old has wasted no time settling into a tough competition.
The teenager is already a first-team regular at Spotland and has earned rave reviews for his performances.
Leeds United should undoubtedly be keeping tabs on the player, who looks like following in the footsteps of White, who previously shone on loan spells with both Newport County and Peterborough United.
Whether Leeds will have a chance of signing him or not remains up for debate but if he is set to be as good as White then it is an option they need to keep open.
