This summer Leeds United finally gave up on Marcus Antonsson. Signed from Kalmar in the summer of 2016, the Swedish striker arrived with a reputation as a goalscorer. However, he failed to click for Leeds in the Championship. Niggling injuries did not help nor did the changing of managers. After spending last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers he headed home, scoring just one Championship goal in his Elland Road career.
Malmo remembered the fact Antonsson was top-scorer in Sweden before he headed to Leeds and decided to give him a chance back in the Allsvenskan.
He has gone straight into first-team at his new club and that has included European competition. Unfortunately, the Swedish side were knocked out of the Champions League by Hungarian outfit Videoton. But on Thursday night, in his first ever Europa League appearance, he managed to find the back of the net.

It was Antonsson’s second goal since heading back to Sweden from Leeds. The game ended in a 2-2 home draw, leaving Malmo with an uphill task against Danish opposition FC Midtjylland if they are to make the group stages.
For Antonsson, it is a chance to try and become a hero with his new club, and fire them into Europe.
If he can do that, then leaving Leeds and England to return home could be justified by a crack in Europe this term.
Whilst not the best performer on the pitch, Antonsson never had a bad word to say about Leeds and always seemed to put in his best shift. So no Leeds fan will wish him ill, and will hope the striker can make it into Europe proper this season.
