Leeds United might want to consider any new approach for Tom Pearce this month

In the summer Leeds United fought hard to keep hold of one of their star young players. Tom Pearce had emerged as the club’s first-choice left-back toward the end of last season under Paul Heckingbottom.

However, he was out of a contract that summer. It led to numerous reports he could be leaving Elland Road. As reported by the Sun on Sunday (27/05/2019; pg 65) Bournemouth were willing to pay £2 million for the player in order to negate any tribunal mess. Everton were also credited with an interest in the player.

In June, the rumours were put to bed. Pearce signed a new four-year deal at Elland Road and is now contracted until 2022.

That, however, was before Leeds appointed Marcelo Bielsa as boss. Clearly, the Argentine does not rate Pearce as highly as his predecessor.

Barry Douglas was signed in the summer and, so far this season, numerous other players have been preferred to the player.

Gaetano Berardi, Stuart Dallas, Ezgjan Alioski and fellow youngster Leif Davis now appear to be ahead of him in the pecking order.

Pearce has also suffered the ignominy of being substituted in and out of the same game on two occasions this season.

Pearce, an England under-21 international, clearly needs some regular first-team football. Leeds should no doubt be looking at loaning him out this month or, if another £2 million bid came in, a sale might be best for the player.
