Leeds United might regret ending interest in seemingly available Championship winger

Bristol City boss Lee Johnson has confirmed yet again that the club could lose winger Callum O’Dowda this summer. Speaking to the Bristol Post, Johnson admitted that O’Dowda may have to leave if he does not commit to a new contract.

“We have to do the right thing. And if the player’s not going to sign a new contract then we’ve got to move him on…

“…whatever happens we’ve got to do what’s right for Callum and what’s right for the football club.”

Immediately, Leeds United will come into the equation. Leeds were strongly linked with a move for the Irishman in the winter.

Sky Sports reported that Leeds were considering making an offer for the player as their pursuit of Daniel James continued to look problematic. The report suggested Leeds were ‘looking into a deal’.

The Times reported in May that O’Dowda was ready to leave Ashton Gate and had a £6 million valuation slapped on his head. With Leeds clearly in need of wide options, perhaps now is the perfect time to strike.

But Leeds are reportedly not interested in revisiting their interest in the 24-year-old. As reported by The Mirror at the start of the month, Leeds have ‘ruled out’ any plans to sign O’Dowda this summer.

Plenty of Championship rivals will now be snooping around O’Dowda with the hope he can take them into promotion contention next season.

Leeds, meanwhile, do not appear to be making headway on any incomings. Meanwhile, Jack Clarke is seemingly on his way out of the club.

Leeds fans will simply hope O’Dowda doesn’t leave them wishing for a move in hindsight next season.
