Leeds United might have expected more from an attacking aspect from Barry Douglas

One area that Leeds United needed to address in the summer was the left-back position. Tom Pearce had ended up in the role last term after Laurens De Bock failed to fill the void left by Charlie Taylor’s departure.

The signing of Barry Douglas was seen as a massive coup. The Scottish defender had just helped Wolves to promotion. However, the Midlands club decided that he was not needed in the Premier League. Leeds swooped, signing Douglas for a fee reported by The Sun to be in the region of £3 million. It was seen as a coup for Leeds and, ultimately, his addition has proven positive for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.

However, would Leeds have expected more from an offensive perspective?

Douglas has provided four assists for Leeds so far this season. With Wolves last term it was 15. He has also failed to score for Leeds this term. He managed five with Wolves as they won the Championship last term.

Of course, he often played as a wing-back at Molineux, which could skew the results slightly. However, Leeds fans would have expected a goal at least from the player by now.

The Scot is currently out with a calf injury. Hopefully, he can get back to his attacking best when he returns to action. It could be the edge that helps Leeds to promotion back to the Premier League.
