Leeds United might have a secret weapon in Mateusz Bogusz next season

Leeds United’s January transfer business saw the club bring in Real Madrid stopper Kiko Casilla and narrowly miss out on a deal for Daniel James. But another deal that seemingly crept under the radar was the arrival of Mateusz Bogusz.

The Polish teenager arrived from Ruch Chorzow with the intention of joining up with the Leeds United under-23 side.

The fee involved was undisclosed. However, Przeglad Sportowy suggested it was in the region of €200,000 (£172,000), with Leeds fending off interest from the likes of Stade de Reims and Brighton.

But before the end of the season, Bugusz actually found himself in the Leeds United first-team picture.

Of course, injuries played a key role in that enforced development. However, Bogusz has been regularly featuring with the Leeds United first-team in pre-season. The 17-year-old even scored against Western Sydney Wanderers during the club’s Australian tour.

So could he be Leeds’ secret weapon next season?

The club have not strengthened in the central midfield position this summer and there is certainly a lack of depth in the position.

Bogusz looks like being high up the rankings when it comes to potential central-midfield options at Elland Road in the upcoming campaign.

Leeds United fans would undoubtedly like to see some new recruits in this area, but it does not seem the club are ready to bring in any new faces at present.

Bogusz might just be the surprise breakout star of the 2019-20 campaign.
