Leeds United loanee Oriol Rey suffers relegation from Spanish third-tier

Leeds United have a long list of players currently out on loan. One of those players is former Barcelona youth team talent Oriol Rey. The 21-year-old holding midfielder, who can also play across the back-line, was signed in 2017 and impressed in the Leeds under-23 side.

This season, it looked as though he might have made his breakthrough into the Leeds first-team. He was handed a new contract in May, played in pre-season and was on the bench in August for the 2-2 draw with Swansea City.

However, Leeds clearly decided that he would be best served heading out on loan. Rey was sent back to Spain, joining UB Conquense in September.

It has been a successful season if the plan was to give Rey plenty of first-team football. The Leeds owned star has played 34 times for the club this season.

However, it has not been a great season for the club. Yesterday saw Conquense draw with Alcoyano 1-1. Rey played the whole game and the end result was relegation to Spain’s fourth tier for Rey’s loan club.

Leeds United will no doubt assess the development Rey might have made this season over the summer. Hopefully, the relegation is not indicative of his own performances.
