Leeds United fans never really saw the best of striker Caleb Ekuban. The Italian-Ghanaian struggled to put in good form for the club after his arrival from Chievo Verona last summer. He certainly struggled to find the net. The attacker missed several opportunities for Leeds, before finally scoring in his 14th appearance for the Whites.
This summer, it became immediately clear that Ekuban was unlikely to be a regular for Leeds under Marcelo Bielsa. With that in mind, loan offers were fielded for the player and he eventually headed to Turkey.
Trabzonspor were the side to take him in and this weekend Ekuban enjoyed a dream debut.
He came off the bench to score for his side in a 4-0 win in the Turkish Super Lig. It was not against any team either, but against perennial title favourites Galatasaray. That made the achievement even more impressive.
From a Leeds perspective, it will certainly go down well, considering the relationship between the West Yorkshire side and the Istanbul giants.
Ekuban will now hope this is just the start of a productive loan spell with his new club. Maybe if he can find regular goalscoring form he can force his way back into the fold at Leeds from next summer.
