Aston Villa are reportedly keen on signing Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer. As reported by The Telegraph, the newly-promoted side rate the Leeds midfielder highly and are planning a potential £14 million move for the player.
It is, of course, alarming news for Leeds fans, who have seen plenty of their top young talents leave the club in recent years.
However, Phil Hay’s recent comments on the latest Inside Elland Road podcast will probably calm Leeds fans down.
Whilst the outgoing Leeds chief at the Yorkshire Evening Post did suggest the report of Villa interest is likely to be ‘absolutely bang on’ he struggles to see Phillips leaving.

Hay stated Leeds would be ‘very resistant’ over any deal and have plans to speak to him again this summer over a potential contract extension and pay hike.
As for Phillips, Hay is under the impression the midfielder is happy at Leeds, wants to stay and is very pleased that Marcelo Bielsa will be at the wheel for at least one more season.
Leeds United fans will be happy to hear this. That being said, they will also know the fickle nature of football more than the fans of many other Football League clubs.
In an instance, it could all change and Phillips could be on his way. But for now, it seems Leeds United are confident they will keep hold of their star midfielder.
