Joe Jordan explains why he thinks Leeds United will have the edge on their promotion rivals

Former Leeds United player Joe Jordan has told Leeds Live why he feels Marcelo Bielsa will oversee promotion to the Premier League this season.

Jordan is an Elland Road icon having played 223 games for the club during an eight-year spell at the football club.

He feels that Leeds not relying on one integral figure is what sets them apart from any other team in the second tier.

He told Leeds Live: “I don’t think they have a key man as such for Leeds. They are not a team who are going to rely on a specific individual, it’s a team game and they will rely on their performance and the way they go about their business.”

Jordan also had high praise for Bielsa and in particular his style of play and the methods he has instilled into his squad.

He continued: “Leeds are a hard-working and intense team who put pressure on the opposition. Their work ethich is sensational.

“Marcelo Bielsa seems very intense and thorough. He gives the players as much knowledge as they can. He plays a system of football that I believe the Leeds supporters really enjoy, which is very important.”

TBR Verdict – Squad depth at Leeds could actually hamper promotion chances

Jordan is right when he says that Leeds don’t rely on one key man and whilst their best 15 or 16 players stay fit they will take some stopping.

A few injuries, however, and you could see the Whites begin to struggle a little bit.

Leeds are extremely short on central defenders and an injury or two there could have a serious detriment on their promotion aspirations.

In terms of the style of play, you can’t really argue with Jordan. It’s a long season of course and we’ve been here before with Leeds flying out of the blocks.

It typically ends with the Whites fading away after Christmas and Bielsa must ensure that consistency is the key message to his squad during 2019/20.
