Leeds United have completed the loan signing of French goalkeeper Illan Meslier, according to their official website.
Yesterday the Yorkshire Evening Post reported that a deal was edging closer amid a move from French outfit FC Lorient.
Meslier is highly-rated in France and kept 11 clean sheets in 30 games in all competitions during the 2018/19 campaign.
The man-mountain stopper stands at 6ft4ins and had previously been tracked by Chelsea and Monaco.
Meslier becomes the fifth loan player at Elland Road. Jack Clarke, Helder Costa, Ben White and Jack Harrison are already on temporary deals.
International loans don’t count towards the five that are permitted in a matchday squad, however, leaving Leeds with room for one more domestic loan.
Leeds have been looking for a goalkeeper since Bailey Peacock-Farrell moved to Burnley earlier in the transfer window.
Kiko Casilla was between the posts in Sunday’s win over Bristol City. Young stopper Kamil Miazek was the substitute goalkeeper.
It would appear that boss Marcelo Bielsa is happy for a younger stopper to compete with Casilla for the gloves.
Meslier should go straight into the squad for Leeds’ game with Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.
