Leeds United’s signing of Jean-Kevin Agustin certainly has plenty of fans at Elland Road excited. The Whites needed a replacement for the departed Eddie Nketiah and the one-time French wonderkid certainly fills that spot.
It is certainly something of a coup for Leeds, considering the previous big-money links related to the striker.
So who do they have to thank for the deal?
Firstly, it seems that Marcelo Bielsa has proved a massive lire once again for a new recruit. Victor Orta, the Leeds United director of football, also deserves praise for this deal.
But speaking to Leeds United’s official website, he also thanked the agent of Augustin for helping to get this deal done. It will undoubtedly be an agent Leeds United fans are familiar with.
“When I spoke to the agent of Augustin to see if he was available, he told me ‘there may be a small possibility’. From then we began working, but at the start of January, it was difficult following the change of coach at AS Monaco. After a couple of weeks, we received a call from the agent to say that the possibility was now open. With the efforts of many people, we tried to act really quickly to secure the player.
“For me, I would like to say that I’m extremely grateful to the player’s agent Meissa N’diaye. He was really effective in his work and it is a pleasure to work with people like this.”
Meissa N’Diaye is the man in question and he previously helped several players move to Leeds United, especially in the Massimo Cellino era.
Sol Bamba and Hadi Sacko are the most high profile, whilst Leeds also signed defender Amadou Haidara to their under-23s, another N’Diaye client.
All three had varying degrees of success at Elland Road and, all three, are no longer at the club. But it appears the bond between the club and agent were never broken and Leeds fans will be thankful for that if Augustin lives up to expectations in West Yorkshire.
