Samuel Saiz will not be kept on by his current club Getafe beyond the end of his loan deal from Leeds United. That has now, seemingly, been confirmed by the local press in Spain. La Vanguardia has reported that Saiz ‘will have to return’ to his parent club. The report continues, stating that ‘no effort will be made to retain’ the Leeds United playmaker.
Saiz’s departure in January certainly split opinion. The Daily Mirror reported that Leeds had allowed him to return to Madrid for personal reasons. The deal was said to be worth £5.8 million if Getafe decided to make the deal permanent.

The Azulones had an excellent end to the season in Spain, narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification. But Saiz played little part in it. With that in mind, it is no surprise that the club does not wish to spend big on Saiz, when other options will be out there.
It presents Leeds with a problem.
Saiz was struggling to fit into Marcelo Bielsa’s system and whilst his exit was treated as a kindness, it also felt as though the Argentine did not fancy him. Leeds fans, on the other hand, know what he is capable of from his excellent start to his debut season.
There is no doubt that in the final stages of this season, Leeds could have done with Saiz in attack.
So Leeds will now have to make a decision. Do they find Saiz another suitor, or give him another go next term. If Bielsa has made his mind up, which is likely, his return to Elland Road will probably be a short one.
