Leeds United should sign Leicester starlet George Hirst as Eddie Nketiah replacement

Leeds United are currently top of the Championship and remain on course for a place in the Premier League.

The Whites will be hoping to get over the disappointment of last season when Derby County beat them in the play-off semi-final.

Marcelo Bielsa has ensured his team have remained as free-flowing as ever this campaign and right now they are the team to beat.

One area that will need strengthening is in the attack. Eddie Nketiah has returned to Arsenal and that leaves Patrick Bamford as the only senior striker.

The problem Leeds will have is finding a striker who doesn’t mind acting solely as a backup. Bamford, 26, has 10 goals this season and when he is fit, he is expected to play.

That could see the Whites pursue a younger talent, as they did with Nketiah.

One player who might be an ideal addition to the squad for the second half of the campaign is Leicester City man George Hirst.

The 20-year-old came through the ranks at Sheffield Wednesday before signing for Leuven where he scored three goals in 23 games for the senior team.

Now back in England, Hirst is playing for the development squad at the King Power Stadium.

He netted his ninth goal of the season for the under-23s last night. The Foxes reached the last eight of the Football League Trophy after a 2-1 win over Tranmere Rovers.

Talent

With Leicester flying high in the league it seems unlikely that Brendan Rodgers will be utilising him in the first-team anytime soon.

The chance to join high-flying Leeds is one that he would surely be keen to take.

Hirst is quick, leads the line well and has shown a lethal goalscoring instinct in youth football.

The 20-year-old would have no real issue acting as a backup to Bamford and he should certainly be an option to consider for Leeds.
