Leeds United have been dealt a big blow with the injury to striker Patrick Bamford. The £7 million striker arrived from Middlesbrough this summer to help the striker situation at Leeds.

It is an area where Leeds are short, so hearing that he is set for four months on the sidelines is certainly a big blow for the Whites.

Kemar Roofe is now the only experienced striking option at the club, with youngsters Tyler Roberts and Ryan Edmondson in reserve.

So could Leeds move into the free agent market?

There are certainly some interesting players on the market. One such player has been heavily linked with a move to Leeds United in the past.

Jerry Mbakogu was linked with Leeds throughout the year. However, that deal never happened.  According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Carpi striker was no longer of interest to Leeds United after other targets were identified. They claimed a £3 million deal was agreed in the winter but Leeds had until June 30th to inform the Italian side they did not wish to exercise it. That deadline was met and, despite Carpi trying to sell him for cheaper, Leeds had simply moved on.

With his position at the Italian club untenable, he had his contract mutually terminated in order to find a new club.

He remains a free agent and, some Leeds fans are calling on Victor Orta to revisit his interest in the Italian-Nigerian in the wake of Bamford’s problem…
