Pep Clotet watched on as Birmingham City helped Leeds United’s promotion cause by earning a point against Sheffield United on Wednesday night – and Leeds fans sent messages to their former assistant.
Leeds slipped behind the Blades on Saturday after losing to former manager Garry Monk and Clotet. Che Adams scored the only goal of the game. Sheffield United beat Preston to go second.
But Leeds responded. Patrick Bamford had a torrid time on Saturday, but he kept on shooting and scored a superb brace against Preston on Tuesday night. It put the pressure on Sheffield United on Wednesday.
Chris Wilder’s side could only manage a point. It means that Leeds sit second on 79, while Sheffield United are on 78 with five league games to play. Former Oxford United manager Clotet posted on Twitter after the match.
Four huge points, one huge step forward…

Clotet worked as an assistant during Monk’s spell as Leeds manager during the 2016-17 campaign. The Spaniard was loved by Leeds fans, with many of the belief that he was the brains behind Monk – the latter’s spell at Middlesbrough did not go well without Clotet.
The two are reunited at St. Andrews and although Birmingham beat Leeds on Saturday, holding Sheffield United to a point has put Leeds in the driving seat. Leeds fans responded to Clotet’s Tweet, with one fan asking him to join Bielsa’s coaching staff.
