Leeds United could be in the hunt for another new goalkeeper this summer, with Kiko Casilla struggling to find his best form since a January arrival from Real Madrid.
So expect plenty of names to be linked with an Elland Road switch in the weeks to come.
However, it is unlikely anyone expected to see Gianluigi Buffon’s name in the mix.
But that is exactly what has happened.
As reported by Italian paper Corriere della Sera, and relayed by Sport Witness, Leeds are joining Brazilian side Fluminense and Porto in the hunt for the Italian legend.
The 41-year-old, spent last year at PSG after a glittering 17 years at Juventus. Buffon, who has 176 caps for the Italian national team is a World Cup winner and multiple Serie A champion would certainly be an eye-catching addition for Leeds United.

But many are finding these reports hard to believe. Buffon may be a free agent, but it is unlikely he will be craving a season in the Championship at this stage of his career.
Of course, it is not outside the realms of possibility, but Leeds fans are ultimately skeptical about any deal.
Others also wonder what the value would be in signing the veteran. Some Leeds fans would like to see the club invest in younger talent rather than paying Buffon massive wages at this point in his career.
Here is some of the best reaction to the report…
