Leeds United started the 2019/20 season in style with Pablo Hernandez at the heart of everything good. Bouncing back from play-off disappointment last season, Leeds brushed fellow promotion hopefuls Bristol City aside with a 3-1 win at Ashton Gate.
Hernandez was instrumental in Leeds’ victory. The Spaniard scored the opener and provided an assist to set Leeds on their way to three points. And both of his goal contributions were pleasing on the eye.
The 34-year-old defied his age to inspire Leeds to their triumph. In the first half, he picked the ball up on the edge of the box, swivelled and sent a left-footed shot into the top corner of Daniel Bentley’s net.

Hernandez produced another moment of magic to put Leeds 2-0 up in the second half. He took the ball around the Bristol City defender inside the box and clipped his cross for Patrick Bamford to nod in.
Leeds fans were awestruck by Hernandez’s performance and they know how important he can be. With a goal and an assist to his name already, the veteran midfielder is showing no signs of slowing up.
Here are some tweets reacting to his display.
