Charlton Athletic will be playing Championship football again next season. The Addicks defeated Sunderland at Wembley in the League One play-off final. One man who has been receiving considerable praise after the result is the Charlton boss Lee Bowyer and rightly so.
He has worked wonders under tough conditions at The Valley and plenty of football fans were quick to congratulate him on his success. Perhaps none more so than Leeds United fans.
Leeds signed Bowyer from Charlton way back in 1996 and he went on to spend seven memorable years at Elland Road. However, he left for West Ham in 2003 with Leeds struggling on and off the football pitch.
But he is still fondly remembered by Leeds United fans, especially for his winning goal against AC Milan in the Champions League.
So plenty of Leeds fans took to Twitter to congratulate the 43-year-old after the win.
In fact, some Leeds fans even openly discussed the possibility of him one day being Leeds manager. At the moment, the fans want Marcelo Bielsa to stay for as long as possible. But if the Argentine was to ever leave, it is clear that Bowyer would be near the top of many a fans wishlist for the Elland Road hotseat.
Here is a summary of the best reaction…
If Bielsa did leave I’d certainly be looking at Lee Bowyer as a replacement. He’s done great things with no Money at Charlton and he’s a Leeds Legend. #lufc

If Leeds can’t afford to keep Bielsa then they need to move fast for Bowyer while his contract at Charlton is up. He talked about going on a journey down there but the opportunity to manage Leeds and challenge at top end next year surely be too good an opportunity to turn down

If Bielsa decides he’s leaving then Lee Bowyer is the man to take Leeds back up.
