Leeds United fans react to Jean-Kevin Augustin's training update

When Leeds United signed Jean-Kevin Augustin on loan in January there was plenty of excitement about his arrival.

Leeds needed another goal-getting striker after Eddie Nketiah’s Arsenal recall and the RB Leipzig forward has a fine reputation as one of Europe’s top young strikers. It is that reputation that saw Leeds pay a reported (BILD) £1.7 million loan fee and agree a potential £17.7 million permanent fee for the end of the loan if Leeds are promoted.

However, it has not been an ideal experience in West Yorkshire so far for the player. A hamstring injury has not helped matters, but he was also clearly not up to Marcelo Bielsa’s high standards of fitness.

Augustin had barely played this season on a loan spell at Monaco and was therefore out of match practice. Bielsa demands an intense level of fitness from his players, which has seen plenty of the players in the Leeds United squad talk of the weight they have shed under the Argentine. Bielsa wants cross-country runners, not sprinters.

Celtic strike Premier Sports deal - is this the "additional value" we've been waiting for?

Augustin, by many other manager’s standards, arrived in fine condition but it became clear he was not up to Bielsa’s early on.

It left many Leeds fans wondering if they would ever see Augustin have a genuine impact at Elland Road this season.

Then the Championship was suspended by the global health crisis and Augustin was presented with an opportunity to get into Bielsa shape.

He has clearly done just that. Leeds United posted a video on Twitter of a rather lean looking Augustin going through his home workout regimen, as he bids to be ready for the return of football at Elland Road.

Augustin himself responded with a rather ironic ‘Big Kev’ response whilst several fans also noticed that the Frenchman was looking in much better condition.

Hopefully, it will result in goals when he finally gets back to playing for Leeds United.
