Ben White made his debut as Leeds United kickstarted their 2019/20 campaign in style. Leeds started with a tricky away test against Bristol City but cruised to a 3-1 victory at Ashton Gate.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men put last year’s disappointment behind them to put on an exhibition in Bristol on Sunday. There were plenty of impressive performances around the park, including an assured debut from White.

Leeds lost Pontus Jansson in the summer; the popular Sweden international opted to join Brentford instead. The Whites also lost youngsters Paudie O’Connor, Hugo Diaz, Liam Kitching and Aapo Halme to leave the centre-back department depleted.

White arrived on a season-long loan from Brighton and Hove Albion, having previously spent time with Peterborough United and Newport County in the lower leagues. The 21-year-old showed no signs of nerves on his Championship debut, though.

Up against Bristol City’s attack, White won three aerial duels, made two clearances and managed to make one block, one interception and one tackle (stats via Who Scored). He also looked confident on the ball, taking 76 touches and completing 66 passes at an impressive rate of nearly 85 per cent.

Here are some tweets from Leeds fans discussing White’s debut.
