While many Leeds United fans may have expected Alfie McCalmont to leave on loan this summer, few would have predicted that the midfielder would be offered the chance to move to the Balearic Islands and play in Spain’s third tier for the coming season.
The Northern Ireland international made his senior debut for the Whites last term. However, he did not make an appearance for Marcelo Bielsa’s side beyond August, and he did not get the chance to make his Championship bow.
So Leeds will have surely been bracing themselves for loan offers for the 20-year-old following their promotion to the Premier League.
And the Yorkshire Evening Post has suggested that UD Ibiza have made a bid that Leeds are currently considering.
The club missed out on promotion to the second tier last season. It remains to be seen how the Whites respond to the offer. But it is noted that McCalmont wants to play senior football next term.
The suggestion that he could move to Ibiza has left some of the supporters divided. Of course, many have few doubts that he will have an excellent time should he head to the island this summer.
And some believe that it would be a fantastic opportunity. There should certainly be little doubt about the chances of McCalmont playing regularly.
However, others are concerned that he would be better off elsewhere. Some have their doubts about how much such a move would prepare him for life in the Leeds first-team.
Meanwhile, others have insisted that he should be sent out on loan to a club playing at a higher level.
Here is how some of the fans have reacted to the reported bid for McCalmont…
Spanish third division? Surely not. Wouldn’t make any sense at all.

He’s better than the Spanish third tier surely.

Better off in our leagues?

Think he’d benefit more from going to German league 2 or the Dutch second division

🇪🇸 People are quick to write off the Spanish leagues but this would be a brilliant experience for Alfie.@IbizaUD are one of Spain’s most exciting projects and only just missed out on promotion last season.

Are they in the third tier? I would’ve hoped we would get him out in the championship
