Leeds United fans react as Stephen Warnock makes interesting claim about promotion
Stephen Warnock told told Sky Sports News, as quoted by the Evening Post, that a 22-team Premier League including Leeds and West Brom is unfair on other Championship clubs – and Leeds fans have blasted their former captain.
Leeds currently stand to potentially be one of the worst-affected sides amid the outbreak of Covid-19, which has suspended English football until April 3 at least. Liverpool are also affected, as they pursue their first title in 30 years.
The Whites are just nine games away from securing promotion to the Premier League, 16 years after being relegated in 2004. With Alan Smith’s tears after a 4-1 defeat to Bolton a nightmare in Leeds fans’ minds, promotion has become a necessity.
With things looking as though Marcelo Bielsa’s side would finally return to the top flight, Covid-19 has put their potential promotion in doubt with some claiming the season should be voided. Former Leeds captain Warnock spoke out.

“When you look at promotion from the Championship into the Premier League, there is talk of two teams coming up and having a 22 team league,” Warnock said on Sky Sports, as per the Evening Post.
“How is that fair on the teams that are fighting in the play-off positions? It is not fair at all and there are problems. There is so much to take into account, it is just so difficult to know what is right.”
Leeds currently sit on 71 points in the Championship, one above West Brom and – perhaps more importantly – seven above third-placed Fulham. They have won their last five league games, keeping five clean sheets.
Elland Road supporters were outraged by Warnock’s comments, questioning his point and stating that it is just as unfair that a team leading the Championship table would not be allowed to gain promotion to the top flight.
There is a big difference between unfair and unjust Leeds not to go up would be unjust, wind your neck in warnock

And how is it fair that the team top of the league after 37 games misses out . The other 23 teams have had 37 games to beat us. Why ignore that for the sake of 9 unplayed gamrs

And your suggestion is?? Not give Liverpool the title ? Just in case? How is that fair the other way? No answer required. It’s not.

The only way to make it fair is to finish the league season. If we don’t , Leeds & WBA will go up under a cloud. The best way forward is to test all squads for Covid-19 regularly and play each game behind closed doors.

Yet it’s totally fair to cancel a season 85% done to prioritise starting a new season where the mediocre and shit teams benefit and the teams at the top are unfairly penalised! Madness. This season HAS to finish even if it delays next season.
