Leeds United’s Under-23 side were knocked out of the Premier League Cup at the group stages on Friday evening as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Derby County’s second string – and fans were not particularly impressed with Jean-Kevin Augustin.
Augustin, 22, started up front in what was his second appearance for the Under-23 side as he looks to prove his fitness and match sharpness to Marcelo Bielsa. He lasted the first half, before being replaced during the break.
The France Under-21 international came into the match after a press conference on Thursday that was dominated by an angry Bielsa – and whether the RB Leipzig loanee would start against Nottingham Forest for the senior side on Saturday.

Whether Augustin is in the senior squad remains to be seen, but looks unlikely that he will start – given that he lasted half of the 2-1 defeat to The Rams. Theo Hudson scored the only goal of the game, as Augustin failed to get on the end of a cross.
The likes of Ian Poveda, Jordan Stevens, Kalvin Phillips, Olly Casey and Elia Caprile all featured during the match, but it was not enough to stop Derby. Augustin struggled to find his feet, and get involved in the game more than he did.
Leeds fans reacted to the performance of the ex-Monaco loanee, and many were surprised at his struggling display. One fan even understood why he did not play against Wigan Athletic last weekend.
