Leeds United are interested in securing the services of Arsenal youngster Eddie Nketiah, according to a report from Leeds Live.
The young talisman looks set to be allowed to leave the Emirates Stadium on a season-long loan, with the Whites ready to pounce.
Kemar Roofe is set for a medical with Anderlecht, according to The Scottish Sun, with Leeds now likely to pursue a replacement.
Leeds Live reports that several second-tier outfits will be interested in signing the 20-year-old prior to the deadline on Thursday evening.
Nketiah has featured quite frequently during the club’s pre-season schedule. With Nicolas Pepe arriving and Alexander Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in place at the club, however, his chances look restricted.
Ryan Kent from Liverpool is another name doing the rounds as a potential Roofe replacement (Leeds Live). As a winger though he wouldn’t really be a natural replacement for the Anderlecht-bound striker.
Nketiah would certainly represent a tidy replacement for Roofe if only a short-term fix.
The academy graduate needs to be playing football this season and fair play to Arsenal for allowing him to move out on loan.
Nketiah perhaps doesn’t have the ‘proven’ aspect of say Dwight Gayle, but he certainly possesses all the attributes to prove handy in the Championship.
Leeds can offer the striker a promotion challenge, whilst Roofe’s departure would also allow him to play the first-team football he so desperately craves.
Marcelo Bielsa would be wise to get this one over the line.
