Leeds United are still said to be open to a deal for a number 10. Daniel James is clearly the number one target for the Whites but bringing in a like-for-like replacement for Samuel Saiz also appears to be an option.
Leeds have shown a propensity to sign proven Championship players this season, with Victor Orta changing his recruitment strategy.
When it comes to number 10s playing in the Championship, not many come better than Jota in recent years.
First with Brentford and now with Birmingham City, he has been a top Championship player for a number of years. He cost the second-city club £6 million, according to Sky Sports, in 2017 – highlighting how highly rated he is at this level.
Leeds would be bringing in a perfect replacement for Saiz if they could convince Jota into a switch to Elland Road. Considering their current place in the league and the chance to work with Marcelo Bielsa, that should not be an issue.
Birmingham City, who are managed by former Leeds United boss Garry Monk, are not in a good position financially and Leeds would no doubt be testing their resolve if they made a move for the Spanish star.
Ruin Monk’s season and bring in the perfect final piece of the jigsaw for Bielsa? That would be a dream end to the transfer window for Leeds.
