Leeds United take on Manchester United in a pre-season friendly this week. The clash in Australia is something of a money-spinner for Leeds and will see two great old English rivals go face-to-face.

It will also be a case of Leeds getting a look at what they could have one.

Manchester United snapped up Welsh international Daniel James this summer. The Swansea City star impressed United enough with his performances in the Championship to secure a move to Old Trafford this summer.  As reported by The Telegraph, the Welsh winger will set United back around £15 million.

But he was so nearly a Leeds United player.

As reported by the Telegraph, the deal was worth an eventual £10 million.

As reported by the Yorkshire Post, James had passed a medical at Thorp Arch and was ready to be unveiled in January before a deal collapsed. Then Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins pulled the plug on the deal and Leeds were without their main January target.

The Guardian later reported that James was left ‘devastated’ at the move falling apart. The Yorkshire born talent desperately wanted the Leeds deal to go through.

But he went on to have an excellent second half of last season which saw Manchester United among many others express their interest in the player.

James made his debut for the Red Devils this week in the club’s first game of their Australian tour against Perth Glory. Now, his second game for the club might come against Leeds United, when fans can see up close just what they were missing from January.
